Barbara K. Slocum, a graduate from William Patterson University with a BA in Fine Arts, is a multi-state and national award-winning art director/graphic designer and is a published illustrator/artist. She has over 40 years of experience in the design field working for various corporations, such as Prentice Hall, Prudential Insurance Company of America, A&P (The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company), among others. In recent years, she has been designing for the nonprofit arena. Throughout the years, she has continued to paint and illustrate for her own pleasure. Barbara has been refining her craft by studying under various talented artists such as Randy McIver, Paul Abrams, and Grace Barna. She continues to push the boundaries of her knowledge, always with the idea that “you are never too old to learn something knew”.
Barbara’s paintings are a representation of the places she has been and of the people she knows. Her inspiration is drawn from observation, catching moments filled with emotions, and capturing the unusual in the usual of the everyday. Walk through the experiences of her life from the happiness of an autistic child’s joy in “Nastia’s Wild Ride” to a chance meeting between a rock and sticks creating “Stone Crab”.
Barbara was raised in New Jersey and spent her summers with her grandparents on their farm in Connecticut. Growing up surrounded by the beauty of the New England countryside, She was inspired to start drawing and painting. Barbara and her husband, raised their two daughters in New York. Recently, they moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland with their dogs.
